Kiwamwaku foundation implemented four projects
First Forest Gardens for the People and the Planet, supported directly 55 farmers. The pilot project (2023-2026) sponsored by the Finish Embassy through Liana a Finish NGO. The project aims at promoting agroecology concept, support farmers by training them, purchasing seeds varieties and working tools such as wheelbarrow, water cans, polytubes for tree nurseries and helping them daily challenges. Moreover, kiwamwaku foundation Instagram, Facebook and both Liana and kiwamwaku foundation websites has more (www.kiwamwaku.or.tz, (www.liana-ry.org ). The target beneficiaries are women, youth and 10% PLHIVs. According to annual evaluation, it was found that the project helped to plant 100,000 new trees, supported 55 acres of farms owned by beneficiaries, trained 50 farmer leaders worked as ToTs, engaged 3 government extension officers to help farmers, 12 new seed varieties were introduced however market for crops, limited access to local seeds was a challenge, drought due to limited rainfall affected crops and limited finance affected intended outcome calling for mobilization to secure more fund to improve such situation.
The second project, is the ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT FOR VULRENABLE GROUP. Funded by the DKA -Austria for 3 years (2022-2025), the project offered full scholarship for poor families, orphans, young single mothers and youth living with HIV/AIDS aging from 14-24 years. In 2023 the project offered 41 scholarships for carpentry, salon hair and beauty, cookery, welding and mechanics. The beneficiaries are believed to be a vulnerable one due to livelihood and lifestyles. According to annual evaluation, it was identified that 5 were employed directly after graduation to work in hotels at Arusha as hotelier, salon attendants and chiefs while 8 graduands were also given opportunity to access loan from the government for startups and 7 joined family businesses. Evaluation found a need to find more resources to construct a vocational school that will help more unprivileged families, purchase more training tools and finding more employment opportunities.
Third, School Environment Project – Construction of water tanks; through support from Liana, UMAUKI and partners kiwamwaku foundation-built water tanks capable to store 30,000 litres at kwahindi primary school at kigonigoni ward, kawawa and kwamwavusha primary schools at Mwanga ward in 2023. The project aims at harvesting rain water, store and use especially during dry seasons. Among requirements, selected schools commit to establish tree nursery, grow trees, establish environmental club, improve hygiene in their toilets and clean their general environments. To specific kwamwavusha was selected due its unique status since it enrolls special students with disabilities. This project is expected to continue next year 2024.
Fourth, Gender and Child protection project
Kiwamwaku foundation is among NGOs in the Northern zone of Tanzania, did two awareness raising events to amplify sounds of the demoted group, women and children. These events were done at Mwangondi Primary school and Kiruru primary schools. Gender and child protect has been our priority area and a new area of focus. The project has reached more than 2000 pupils, 100 community members including teachers and educational officers

The two annual reports had one project alone, the ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT FOR VULNREABLE GROUP. As highlighted in 2023 above report and the selection criteria for beneficiaries each year 40 students were given opportunity for the same courses. The courses were designed to suit current employability and market demand for skills. It was from year 2022, the NGO was re- registered, 10 years strategy was drafted, human resources and financial policies were modified, two more policies were added, the gender policy and child protection one. 2021 and 2022 are identified as years where more trainings for staff in agriculture, environment and financial were offered supported by the DKA- Austria and HORIZONT 3000 and reformations were made to the board and membership were motivated to register through our kiwamwaku branches.
